Lately, Little Zo Ee is giving me loads of surprises with her language skill, especially when I least expect it from her; to say or read a new word. Merely, 3 days past her 15-months old mark, she has already read aloud / spoken quite a number of new 2 syllables words: Greenland, pocket, rabbit, g-raffe (giraffe), barney, smelly, yogurt, no more, many, kitchen, mammals, Dettol, egg yolk, egg white, dentist, teether, bean curd, tortoise, bubble and winter. She is even able to read this short sentence, “ Giraffe is so cute.”
Scene 1:
While we were out last weekend, there was this car with Barney and his friends. So out of curiousity, we asked little Zo Ee, “ Zo Ee, who is that?” Without hesitation, little Zo Ee replied, “ Barney! ” She does recognize Barney although she is not really a Barney's fan.
Scene 2:
Since now approaching Singapore National Day's celebration, flags can be seen everywhere. Daddy and Zo Ee were passing by a cake shop that was having some promotion with the lion on its banner. And when little Zo Ee saw it, she read aloud to daddy, “ Happy Lion.”
Scene 3:
One afternoon, while Mummy and little Zo Ee were spending some time together in the living room, suddenly little Zo Ee talked to Mummy, “Kitchen” while pointing at the kitchen. And surprised Mummy really lost her words.
Scene 4:
While Mummy was bathing little Zo Ee in the bathroom, little Zo Ee read aloud “Dettol” when she saw the dettol body wash (we just switched to this new brand after many years using Dove but I think I still prefer Dove). So my little observant Zo Ee spotted the new item in the bathroom. And this is just another incident where little Zo Ee was able to read a new word all by herself.
Scene 5:
This week, little Zo Ee is reading a book titled Dentist. She seems to love this book a lot, and after a few days browsing it, out of a sudden she read aloud to Mummy, “Dentist” when she saw this particular book on the sofa. Again, Mummy was speechless!
Scene 6:
While sitting little Zo Ee down onto her high chair for dinner, little Zo Ee saw the steamed fish with bean curd on the dining table. And immediately, she wanted to have some, telling us, “bean curd, bean curd” while pointing at them. Gosh, although she knows that it was called bean curd, but we don’t expect her to say it, other than her usual way, “bean, bean”.
