Am I amazed seeing my little 15-months old reading short sentences? Yes, I would be if it is another toddler but not really when it comes to my little Zo Ee. Basically, with her vast vocabulary (>500words), she should be able to read many sentences, not limited to 3 or 4 words sentences only but even longer ones.
The only obstacle that I do notice is that reading long sentences are very tiring and too demanding for a little 15-months old. That’s why little Zo Ee needs to gain her reading stamina slowly. After weeks of Mummy reading short sentences to her, few weeks ago, on a few occasions, little Zo Ee was reading aloud short sentences. Nevertheless, she seems to be more ready after reaching her 15-months old mark, more ready to venture all by herself; therefore willingly reading more short sentences lately. On a few occasions, Mummy even spotted little Zo Ee reading aloud a full short sentence to herself, eg. “Spiders live in trees.”
When little Zo Ee is in a good mood, she even has the stamina to read a whole book without taking any break. One good example is this book on spider which we borrowed few days ago (Title : Spin, spider, spin! By Rau), “Spiders have eight legs. Spiders have eight eyes. Spiders live in grass. Spiders live in trees. Spiders make silk. Spiders spin webs. Spiders catch bugs. Spiders eat bugs. Spin, spider, spin! “
In this video, Mummy allowed little Zo Ee freedom to read only cards that she preferred and stopped the reading session when little Zo Ee was getting a little restless. As it is extremely important not to force a child but to let her have fun and enjoy every moment of it.
Short sentences read by Zo Ee in this video are:
Taste some cheese.
In the park.
Sing a song.
Wash my face.
Comb my hair.
Brush my teeth.
Make a cake.
Sweep the floor.
Take an apple.
Clap my hands.

She so clever, cute and adorable!!! Really feels like hugging her. You are really doing a good job there Joo Mee.
ReplyDeletethanks Anna. Not sure if she wants to hug you... hee hee... nowadays, whenever I asked her, Zo Ee what are you doing? She will answer me, "eating." or "sitting." or "hugging" (hugging her bear/toy) or when Mummy ordered her to sit down on the sofa instead of standing, cheeky Zo Ee will reply mummy, "standing" (insisted to stand on the sofa)
