Yesterday, we went all the way to the National library in the city as daddy wanted to exchange some old books at the old books exchange campaign among readers. When daddy headed to the ground floor to look for exchange books, I took Zo Ee to the children books corner.
When we reached there, there was already a story telling session going on. So I quietly pushed Zo Ee towards the group of kids, where we found a spot on the left side front. Zo Ee was curiously looking at the story teller and kids responding to her and her story. We sat there for about 15minutes and Zo Ee was attentively looking at the kids and the story teller in the front all the time. She seems interested, maybe not at the story being told but more at those responsive kids at the front, volunteering to participate.
Later, when the story telling session ended, I went to look for some baby board books. After searching the kid’s corner a few rounds, I gave up and asked the librarian on duty, where exactly are all the baby board books? She pointed at those wooden boxes at the other end of the room. Surprisingly, so little baby books in the national library as compared to the neighbourhood libraries we frequent. But Zo Ee seems to be enjoying herself, searching through the boxes with other kids although most of the books were not appropriate for Zo Ee’s age (too small print).
When I finally found a book that suits her (baby first words), I happily showed it to Zo Ee. These are familiar words to Zo Ee and words that she can read verbally. So I pointed at the large print and asked her “Zo Ee, what is this word?” Zo Ee read “ball, bear, hat, star,..” and so on. A little girl kneeling nearby (about 4years old), overheard little Zo Ee reading those words aloud. She was so surprised and stopped her books searching while attentively listening to every single word read aloud by Zo Ee until the end. Then she excitedly looked at me and Zo Ee before yelling to her mummy aloud “Mummy, look! This baby is so cute. She can really read.”
