Today Zo Ee found this book on the bookshelf, The Atlas of the Human Body (complete guide to how the body works). This book actually belongs to Mummy but this will not stop little Zo Ee from reading it. Same as usual, she will keep bugging Mummy to read to her, "Mum, please read The Atlas of the Haman Body. Mum, please come and sit with Zo Ee. Mum I want to read the Atlas of the Human Body. " She will not give up until Mummy complies to her request. Little Zo Ee wants Mummy to read with her on her every first attempt to any new book as she will be asking so many questions.
We spent about an hour going through this book, page by page on Zo Ee's request. We didn't really finished reading every words or paragraphs in this book(250pages). We looked through the pictures on every page, read a few lines of Zo Ee's interest and answering Zo Ee's questions on those pictures. Most of the time, Mummy will sit next to her while little Zo Ee reads/looks attentively on each page. Whenever she is satisfied with each page, she'll move on to the next page. She will not want to skip any page and will not be satisfied until we reached the last page. She may be satisfied for today first browsing and will be asking for this book again tomorrow or the next few days.
Also, this is not Zo Ee's first encountered on the human body. She is actually quite knowledgeable on the body parts already, eg. brain, stomach, intestines, heart, lungs etc. She has been reading on children encyclopedias months ago and other books on all subjects. Basically, she will read anything or any books. Mummy used to joke that "there is a little encyclopedia inside her little head" because she easily grasped and remembered everything she reads. She knows the planets' names before 2 and half years old. She can recognize them and she uses words like observatory deck, satellite dish, Stephen Hawking and when she is playing on the hula hoop; she commented, "Spinning like the planet Saturn." Also, at 2 and half years, she was telling us that "Octopus has eight arms and Squid has ten arms." "That's the angler fish with its glowing bulb on its head." " That's the stalactites and stalagmites." "That's the didgeridoo." "Brown, orange, purple and red are warm colours." When Mummy mentioned purple, she corrected Mummy, "That's violet." "Those are the beetle's antlers." "Those are reeds inside the mouthpiece." "This is Stegosaurus. " "That's the opera house in Australia. Burj al-Arab in Dubai." "Condensation." She was telling Mummy about the different dancing ballet dancing steps and their names.
We first introduced little Zo Ee to her first Encyclopedia at 14-months old and Visual encyclopedia of Sea Creatures some months later. Occasionally, she still read these books of hers although she has her other newer collection which we bought for her when we reached Goa, India. She reads on all subjects now and even then, she actually read more than 1000 library books before turning two, that's about a year after we took her to the library.
Here are Zo Ee's Encyclopedia collections (about 200 pages each),they are actually meant for older kids but we have been reading these for 6months since Zo Ee was 2years 4months old except the Kingfisher first encyclopedia and Visual Encyclopedia of Sea Creatures which we started reading when Zo Ee was 1 year plus. Now we have moved on to her newer collections.
Shown here are some other simpler facts books that Zo Ee read these past months.
Only showing some of Zo Ee's Disney Know all About series...
Zo Ee's newest books collection of 2011.
Of course, she reads other books too, like rhymes, stories, etc.
Zo Ee's ladybirds' collection.
There are many other books that I may not have mentioned here; which including Mummy's books. (not shown here)
This look like a huge collection of books for a two years old, yet Daddy commented, "Look at the speed of her reading, soon we will run out of books again." We have been purchasing lots of books before and after moving here and are constantly looking out for new good books for our little bookworm since there is no public library in Goa. Also, little Zo Ee knows her collection quite well, if we were to put a new book on her book shelf, she will notice it immediately and will want to read it instantly.
